V in Cairo land..

In a new foreign land; learning, living, mia mia (perfect) but with thoughts of beautiful friends and families around the world..

  • I like simple things; like music and food and sports and arts; things that unite people, things that people can relate to.
I watched a simple play tonight. It’s about the challenges that people living with disabilities face in Egypt; discrimination from all areas:
Home - parents who try to hide their kids with disabilities at home
School - that does not cater to those with slightly different needs and not able to provide the level of education that enable the disabled to progress to university
Workplace - and as a result no decent employment opportunities and even if they are employed, no facilities whatsoever for it to be an inclusive environment
This was followed by a Q&A with the cast and director and family members of the cast sharing their experiences and journey.
It was simple but I like it. The message got across. Sometimes it’s important to get little reminders of why we do what we do and hopefully one day how to do it right and sometimes simple is the best.
